The scary truth is that, at least to some extent, the technology to prevent redistribution of images (mainly video, apparently) is already here. Where to find it? Porn sites, of course: the cutting edge of internet-based multimedia technology. Oh, the irony.
I laughed so much I didn't notice that the tears were real. Yes, I'm in the last stages of an Oxford DPhil. Of course, Philip, you now have your doctorate, which makes you the exception to the rule. Unsurprising, since you did it the "wrong" way: book first, then the thesis...
John Tesh is sueing Vignette for the costs of his StoryServer installation, claiming that "the software was not as advertised"; in fact, the case sounds quite a lot like Philip's old page on Vignette, including the complaint that "workflow support was not built into StoryServer, only the ability to do workflow was built into StoryServer." And ArsDigitans will probably be faintly amused by the plaintiff's description of Tcl as "an archaic scripting language." (The real irony: Inside.com's site, which carries the report, runs on StoryServer.)
Said Philip: "You can't initiate a call while driving." And a good thing too: you can't operate a chainsaw while driving either. I'm quite happy to have a phone that's just hard enough to use that it dissuades me from calling out while driving.
