When there is an accident and the insurance company pays off the
aircraft owner, who pays for the motor to be sent off to Alabama and
be bench tested? The insurance Co? The FAA? Continental? It has to be
an expensive proposition to crate it, truck it and test it.

I asked an expert in this area and here's what he said: "If it crashed due to engine failure then Lyco or TCM take it home to the factory and test it. They take care of shipping and test cell expense. The insurance company pays to move it from the crash site and to remove the engine and box it up and store the aircraft."
