Looking at the classifieds it appears that 2001-2003 cirrus sr22's can
be had under $200000.(over built?) Other planes that were the same
price new seem to be holding prices better, ie '95 mooney ovation is
about the same price for the similar engine time and avionics
If you had the money to spend, would the cirrus be the best buy
because it is a newer airframe for the same price?

A used Cirrus is a great value because there are so many of them out there. Mooneys were made by hand; the Cirrus was made on an assembly line. The Cirrus doesn't handle very well but if what you want to do is punch up the autopilot and go from Point A to Point B, it is unbeatable on price. If you're going to be flying real IMC, I would suggest spending a bit extra for the all-glass Cirrus.

For my money, a Beech Bonanza or Debonair. Phil Boyer, Past President of AOPA, just bought one.

I agree that a Bonanza is a pretty good option. Insurance rates do not lie! Plus you can get parts and almost any mechanic can work on it and do not for get the Bonanza Pilot Society.Bonanza.
