When I download acs-19990923.tar.gz and try to unzip and untar it, I
get an error:I type:
gzip -cd acs-19990923.tar.gz | tar -xvf -
The error, after unpacking a lot of stuff, is:
gzip: acs-19990923.tar.gz: unexpected end of file
tar: directory checksum error
Should this error be ignored?

Sounds like you got an incomplete download. Try it again. Good versions should be sitting in /home/ta/.
