The Afghan Hound

My earliest impression of the A.I. Lab was a trim black graduate student typing at a CADR, one of the first Lisp Machines. He was always neatly dressed and had a beautifully groomed Afghan Hound who curled up around his feet.

This guy had it all. By virtue of being a graduate student at MIT, he had access to a programming environment that others could only dream about. There were maybe 100 people in the world, all of them at Xerox or MIT, who could achieve the kind of productivity he could. And when he got tired of programming, he could talk to some of the wildest and most creative people anywhere. Marvin Minsky, Seymour Papert, Dave Levitt, some guy asleep in the hammock. All that plus he had that beautiful dog.

Wow years later I ask. Who is this "trim black graduate student "that you talked about? Where is he now. Has he invented interesting objects. I am interested in finding out.
